7 Super Shots from Tasmania

I am very much intrigued by HostelBookers 7 Super Shots Competition. Well, I tried to come up with own 7 Super Shots from my exploring activities around Tasmania. Here's my 7 photos that:

1. Takes my breath away...
This breath-taking view is the Isthmus between North Bruny Island and South Bruny Island.

Wildlife Tasmania Series: Tasmanian Devil

“The Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) is a carnivorous marsupial of the family Dasyuridae, now found in the wild only in Tasmania. Recently Tasmanian devils have suffered greatly from a mysterious cancer that appears to be passed directly from animal to animal by biting. The disease causes terrible tumours around the face and is always fatal, killing the host about five months after the first signs of the disease. Around half the wild devil population has succumbed in the last 10 years.”

Autumn in Tasmania

When the rest of the Northern Hemisphere is excited about the coming of Spring, here in Tasmania in the other side of the world, we are experiencing discernible change to milder, clear days. It only means that winter is fast approaching. But before that I took the chance to enjoy what autumn in Tasmania is like.

Port Arthur Historic Site

“The Port Arthur Historic Site is amongst the best-preserved convict settlements in Australia and among the most significant convict era sites in the world.” (Discover Tasmania).

Port Arthur is got to be one of the most intriguing places I’ve been to. It provides a glimpse of what the place represents in the history books of Tasmania.

Wildlife Tasmania Series: Tasmanian Tiger

TASMANIAN TIGER IN HOBART ZOO, 1920'S

The Thylacine or the Tasmanian Tiger is considered to be one of the famous icons of Tasmania. Being the largest carnivorous marsupial in the world and could only be found in the island, the said animal is considered extinct by 1936. The last known Tasmanian tiger, or thylacine, died in captivity in 1936 but specimens of Australia's carnivorous marsupial are preserved in museums around the world.

Mt. Field National Park

RUSSELL FALLS, MT. FIELD NATIONAL PARK

Mt. Field is tagged to be one of Tasmania’s most loved national parks. The park has a wide variety of scenic features and wildlife. It offers a great range of facilities for day visitors. Few other national parks in Australia offer such diversity in vegetation, ranging from tall swamp gum forests and massive tree ferns at the base of the mountain, through rainforest along the Lake Dobson Road, to Alpine vegetation at the higher elevations.

Tasmania's Top Destinations (Part 3)

EAGLEHAWK NECK, TASMANIA (VIEW FROM THE TOP)

Reminiscing our visit to Eaglehawk Neck, along the Tasman peninsula during our visit to Port Arthur. As you can see the photo above it's a scenic view of this natural bridge. Another scenic panorama. Meanwhile, here's the last batch of exciting and breath-taking destinations, only in Tasmania. I can't wait to visit these places in the near future.

The Future of Mt. Wellington

I’ve not been to Mt. Wellington yet because when all others won’t be a good destination to visit during winter, Mt. Wellington will be the perfect place to visit. However, needless to say there had been some arguments and debates going on regarding the future of Mt. Wellington. Here are some of the excerpts from "The Mercury"

Tasmania's Top Destinations (Part 2)

BRUNY ISLAND TOP VIEW

The trip to Bruny Island last Saturday was amazing, I'm so excited to post the photos that I've captured. It was a fine sunny day and the beauty of the island was just amazing. We also collected fresh oysters from one of the deserted beaches. In the mean while see more of Tasmania's magnificent and exquisite destinations...

Tasmania's Top Destinations (Part 1)

PORT ARTHUR HISTORIC SITE
In the past 5 months of my stay here in Tasmania I’ve already been to Tassie’s top scenic and stunning destinations, which I will later on post individually. However, I discovered that there are still several equally picturesque locations in this magical island. I found 15 beautiful destinations, based of course on my personal preference as a traveler. I promised myself that this is going to be a life’s goal. To see these wonderful places, if it’s the last thing I do.

Salmon Ponds: Heritage Hatchery and Gardens

The Salmon Ponds is considered to be the oldest trout hatchery not only in Australia but the entire southern hemisphere. It was established in 1861 and it is the birthplace of trout (salmon) in Australia. My friends and I stopped over to enjoy the trout ponds, the green lawns and the historic memorabilia and mini-museum embedded in this 19th century style establishment.

Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

The Royal Botanical Gardens in Hobart is well renowned by its unique collection of Tasmanian plants and tree species. You can just simply bring along a picnic basket and mat while enjoying the exquisite landscape and views. My partner and I went there in early summer and thank goodness most of the flowers bloomed, including the magnificent magnolia. Apart from the plant species, I was also able to spot beautiful bird species and wild rabbits lurking in the bushes. I took the chance to take as many photos as I can.

Salamanca Market

When I arrived in Tasmania last October the first thing that came to my mind was… Shopping! Although I must admit that I was a little in shock when I found out that there were no big shopping malls in Hobart, unlike Abu Dhabi and Dubai where we have the one of the biggest shopping malls in the world. Mmm… I guess I have to face it my shopping lifestyle might come to a halt.  So what’s the alternative? Well, good thing there’s the Salamanca Markets!

City Life vs. Tassie Life

I arrived in Hobart last year 2011 from Abu Dhabi and believe me my world went upside down. Well, to elaborate more. Abu Dhabi as you know is now aiming to take center stage for it’s architectural prowess in the Middle East and the rest of the world. Wherever you go you can see skyscrapers and buildings rising from every corner of the street. I lived there for 4 years in a 30-story flat, so you can guess how difficult it was when our elevator got busted.

The Natural Island Paradise: Tasmania

Picture this: wilderness and wildlife at a gentle pace, majestic rivers, pristine deserted beaches, endless forests for trekking, thermal springs and ancient caves, well preserved historic sites and the list just goes on. Well, it’s all here in the island located almost in the edge of the world. It is considered to be one of the last frontiers of the natural world, the breath-taking island of Tasmania.
